Welcome to Karen!

Hi, my name is Karen and I’m the Children’s and Families worker. I joined a church choir as a child after I went to a rehearsal and came away with a chocolate Santa. I’ve been going to church ever since! My favourite colour is purple, I adore ducks and I love to bake, read and watch films.

I came to Guildford to study music at University, then started working with the children and young people at St Clare’s Church, Park Barn, where I was living as a student. I absolutely loved working with the young people and their families, so after I graduated I kept doing it. I also spent a couple of years working at Guildford Cathedral, organising tours and making our visitors feel welcome (as far as I was able to in the circumstances – Covid limited what we could offer).

Now I’m here and really excited to go forward in this role. My focus is to create a place where children and youth feel welcome, whatever their background, and to do that through a mixture of fun events, engaging teaching and friendly faces. I am hoping we can offer children on a Sunday morning some fun activities that link with the service, Messy Church, something extra for our very young members in addition to the successful toddler group, and some provision for our teenagers so they know they are still a part of the family.

I want to build on what the church is already offering, using the gifts of the people who are part of the family, and to encourage and enable people to try new things and start new initiatives for our young people. I am always open to ideas.

If you would like to volunteer to work with me in creating this provision for our amazing children and young people, please get in touch. No offer is too small! Whether it’s volunteering in person, offering to help with preparing resources, baking, making tea and coffee…or something I haven’t thought of yet!
