Waverley launches Stay at Home Directory

The single most important action we can take to fight Coronavirus, is to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives. But life while social distancing or self-isolating doesn’t have to mean you don’t have access to local business services, thanks to a new online tool by Waverley Borough Council.

Many of Waverley’s resourceful local businesses have quickly adapted to the current circumstances by changing their product offer and introducing a ‘contactless’ delivery service. This means that deliveries can be left on the doorstep, at an agreed location or even loaded directly into your car via a ‘drive-through’ collection. Other services can be delivered online or even over the phone. Waverley Borough Council has built a searchable database of businesses offering these services in the borough by working together with our local town and parish councils. You can find it at: www.waverley.gov.uk/StayHome. Alongside all the traditional takeaway favourites, there are categories for shops and pharmacies, gardening and DIY, health and fitness, pet services, education, professional services and more. You can even search for businesses by category or local area. Any businesses not already on the database, that offer a contactless delivery service are urged to get in touch with details of their products by emailing: business.support@waverley.gov.uk

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Parks and Leisure, said:

“These are difficult times, self-isolation, social distancing and the enforced closure of businesses can lead to anxiety, loneliness and even depression as residents are separated from friends and loved-ones and businesses’ revenue streams are cut off.

“I have been humbled and encouraged by the way our communities are already pulling together to support each other, and I know that with our kindness, drive and resilience we can get through this together.

“I would urge everyone to help maintain their mental health by finding creative ways to continue ‘normal life’ as much as possible, seek out activities they can engage in safely and try to support our fantastic local businesses as they strive to support us.”
